Asking for help was something that Nicole and Devon had never been comfortable doing but when they came to The Lennon Center for a pregnancy test and it turned positive, they realized that help was exactly what they needed. The couple had been married for twelve years and had five beautiful children. Devon had been working at an auto plant for 13 years and suddenly found himself laid off. His unemployment benefits were running out and the family bills were getting behind. Finding out that Nicole was pregnant with their sixth child was not the news they longed hear. The Lennon Center worked with the family providing them with counseling, mentoring, material assistance and most of all friendship. Devon came into the center to prepare his resume and took a life enrichment class on interviewing skills. The staff of the center worked with him in locating another employment position as a security guard. At Christmas time the family received gifts as part of the Christmas is For Everyone Program. Nicole is currently enrolled at Henry Ford Community College and hopes one day to become a nurse. Her goal is to help people in the world. She and Devon both want people to know that even though they were married it was difficult for them to continue their pregnancy. They are not proud of the fact that they considered abortion as an option to their pregnancy with their youngest daughter but know that in their situation without the support The Lennon Center it would have been difficult for them to be able to parent. They hope that people can better understand how difficult an unplanned pregnancy can be for someone who struggles financially. They hope people know how much The Lennon Center means to them.
